ABCR Auctions commented on 1. Caldwell's
Hi Elise, without seeing the bottle it is hard to give it an exact era. The green one in the picture above is from the late 1920s. Most embossed Caldwells wines bottles are from roughly the 1920s to 1950s. Cheers, Dave, ABCR Auctions

Elise commented on 1. Caldwell's
Hi, I found a round, clear glass bottle on my property in NSW with a base mark that says 'Caldwell wines Ltd' and I think it's quite a beautiful bottle. I'm not interested in selling it however I'm interested in an approximate date for when it was sold and what it would have contained. I cant find much on the company except that it was active in the 30s up until the late 70s. I would really appreciate it if you could help me and provide some information on my finding

ABCR Auctions commented on Pair of Kirker Greer Quart Whiskies
Hi Deb, most of the William Greer bottles seem to date to around the 1890s. They are almost certainly related to the Kirker Greer business but I've never followed it up to be sure. Most of these British whiskies, while attractive, don't sell for a lot as they tend to have been exported here to Australia in large quantities.

Hi, I have an identical shaped green tint bottle with 'William Greer & Co" and old lochdhu whisky glasgow . I was wondering if you have any info. Regards Deb

ABCR Auctions commented on Pair of Maughams
Hi Johnny, the Penrose "Maugham" as these long skinny bottles are known are fairly available. Generally speaking somewhere around the $30-40 mark.

ABCR Auctions commented on Josephson's Australian Ointment
Hi Vonni, These lids with the grey star usually sell somewhere between $30 and $60. The base adds no real value as they are easy to obtain. More valuable variations of this lid have blue or red stars in the middle.

ABCR Auctions commented on Pair of Kirker Greer Quart Whiskies
Hi Melissa, Similar bottles can date earlier than these. Most found in Australia of this style are of the 1870s-1920s era. Your bottle sounds very much like a Mitchell's Whisky Belfast of which there are numerous varieties. Cheers, Dave
user_avatar
Hi, can you tell me if the era listed (1890s - 1900s) is just for these bottles and if there are any similar bottles dating back to the 1860s? I'm particularly interested in the mark WHISKY BELFAST, as I have a broken example with that exact embossing and would like to trace it back to its manufacturer. Cheers

Dave commented on Bronger Bros.,
Hi Peter, condition is everything with these. The all white blob top examples aren't rare but definitely valuable in top condition. they have sold for anything from $55-450 depending on exact condition. In general solid shape I would think $150-200 is fair value. Cheers, Dave. ABCR Auctions.

Hi Bronte, don't know your exact bottle. The base mark suggests it is from the 1930s-1940s. These triangle shaped bottles are broadly described as Kerosenes but also contained things like Methylated Spirits, Phenyle, Polishes and the like.

Hi Kath, these bottles were sold just over 18 months ago in our 14th auction. Kirker Greer Whiskies aren't overly hard to get so if you want to keep a watch on our website www.abcrauctions.com or look us up on Facebook we mention when auctions are coming up and usually promote the many bottle shows around the country where these are regularly seen. Cheers, Dave
