Objects relating to aspects of Australia's history, including historic postcards, badges, books, ceramic items, souvenirs and more. The themes of national and state commemorations, the Australian home front in two World Wars, and Australia's relationship to the monarchy and a push for an Australian republic are emphasised in the collection, but there are other aspects of Australian life featured as well. WELCOME TO MY COLLECTION. Please enjoy looking around, and if you would like to leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you!
Material related to aspects of Australian social history including, but not limited to, items relating to the Australian home front in both World Wars, and items created for national and state anniversary celebrations, including the sesquicentenary of British settlement (1938), the Bicentenary (1988), the Centenary of Federation (2001), and the Centenary of Canberra as the national capital (2013). The collection also contains material relating to Australians and the Monarchy, and the campaign for an Australian republic. There are also items relating to early 20th century domestic life, and Australian country music. A core part of the collection is souvenir transferware and painted items featuring Australian cities, towns and landmarks, and native flora and fauna.
A second collection, of First Nations Small Artworks contains works in wood, ceramic, fibre, tin and paint from Warlukurlangu Arts, Yuendumu, Yirrkala, Papunya, Warmun and Tjanpi Desert Weavers, APY Lands.
I have been actively collecting since the early 1990s.
I am an Australian historian and museum curator and I am interested in objects as historical evidence.
Not at present.
My other collecting interests include Pacific Island artefacts and bags and basketry, money boxes, and more frivolous collections such as zebras, owls and pigs. And boxes of all kinds as well.
