The letters of S, V, and H for St Vincent’s Hospital are entwined centrally in blue enamel and the second buckle loop is separate from the badge. This badge has superficially scratching on front surface.
This rare example of an Australian hospital belt buckle and this buckle became part of the nurse trainee’s uniform at St Vincent’s Hospital after successful completion of First Professional examinations [at the end of the first year of training]. With change of uniform style in 1972, the buckle was withdrawn but following nurses’ protests, it was awarded after completion of the staff nurse year [the first year of practice as a registered nurse].
