This photo shows Eurimbla after launching from the Poole & Steel shipyard at Osborne on the 20 April 1921. There are other photos of the launching that show the same temporary flag pole that can be at the stern.
Aotea Quay is at Wellington, NZ. The photo shows Wanganella in Feb 1947 after having been salvaged from Barrett's Reef at the entrance to the port. The date 7th of Jan 1947 is incorrect as the Wanganella grounded on the 19 Jan and was not salvaged until Feb, 18 days later. The tug alongside is the Wellington Harbour Board salvage tug Kakanui.
I have not come across a 4-masted barque called Osterstock and none is to be found in Trove newspapers. I believe this is the Beatrice, ex.Svithoid, ex.Routenburn that visited Port Adelaide in Nov 1928 to Jan 1929. She arrived with "silver sand", and departed with wheat.
The tug second from the right was the Leveret built in 1896. I believe this photo was taken in 1897. From my notes: 1897/10/02 tugs Falcon and Leveret departed McLaren Wharf, Port Adelaide each having on board a large number of people, followed the opening of the season procession held by the newly formed Port Adelaide SC, continued to the mouth of the river before returning, steering gear fouled a mooring rope from ss Larnaca (qv) berthed at the Adelaide SS Co Wharf that had been taken to one of the buoys across the channel, delayed the landing the Falcon's passengers.
As the person responsible for the research for the restoration of the James Craig, I can confirm that this vessel is not the James Craig. However, she was built by the same builder - Bartram Haswell &Co, Sunderland. It is the Myrtle Holme, a regular visitor to Port Adelaide. I have confirmed this by a close comparison with photos of the Myrtle Holme. As well as general features being the same, the scupper holes and portlights correspond exactly with the painted gunport pattern in both photos.

My mother's family lived in Leadenhall St, early 1900's. Prideaux family. My family moved to Queenstown 1947 and my parents ran the tuck shop/general store corner of Broad St and Port Rd (High St.) until 1956 when we moved to Woodville South. I was 3 when we moved there and then attended, when 5, the "Little school" (Alberton Infant ) and then the "Big school" (Alberton Primary) until 1956. Dad went to Alberton Primary as well around 1905. Lots of memories about the backwoods of Queenstown and the friends I had there (Dowsetts among others). Tried to get historical info out of the Alberton Primary school re early records but hit a brick wall. As you get older ,family history becomes so much more important.
Cooper, this image is the only information we have on your property. The picture was taken by Messesnger Newspapers to be used in adverting the property in 1994, clearly the Messenger beleived the number to be 21, if you want a copy of the image ring me on 0417202066
As a current occupent of this address the council still insists this house is in fact 24 Beaufort Street which is just wrong, if anyone with more information can help with fixing this please reach out. The issue impacts anything to do with maps to this day, which you can test yourself by chucking it into various map search engines.

I was born at Sirius maternity in 1946. My parents, Harry and Florence and my two elder sisters Doreen, Helene and I lived at 51 Queen Street Alberton until the mid 50's. The house was alleged to be around 100 years old when my parents moved in and had been used by the local bakery as a stable for horses. Our adjacent neighbors were the Keys and Sweetmans. I used to play with Wayne Turville!

My brother and I were born here in 1947 & 1950 respectively and lived in Queen Street Alberton until we each married in 1971, where my parents built and lived for over 60 years.
Hi, my great, great grandfather Emanuel Fernandez worked as an 'overseer' at the silt works and lived in Pt. Adelaide until he died in an accident, reputed to be between a light ship and another vessel? The only record I have been able to find is the burial of Emanuel Fernandez's two children in the old Pt. Adelaide cemetery. Are there any employee records for the Harbours Board or who was completing silt works?

I am a member of the SA Pioneers association by virtue of my descendancy from Samuel Germein. I thought it might be of value to also join the Port Adelaide historical society but see (by searching your website) that you appear to have nothing in relation to Samuel - or, indeed, any of the whole Germein family. Am I correct?

I am trying to find out information about my great grandfather John William Walker and his daughter Alma Jean Walker. Alma married William R H Sowden and his occupation is listed as Greengrocer. I have a photo of what I believe was my Auntie Alma's shop but not sure the address. My great grandfather John William Walker was also a greengrocer and I think the business was handed over to my Auntie Alma and her husband. I can scan and email the photo I have of the shop if you like as it might help with the location. One address that comes up is 92 Commercial Road Port Adelaide. I remember going to the shop when I was little. I remember it was on a corner and there was a house attached to it.
