This cup & saucer combination is fairly unique. It was produced before Felix Pratt had introduced their multi coloured transfer wares. The branding on the saucer reads ' Kaolin Ware, then a Chinese design, NANKIN, then F & R P No 1. This indicates that they were like every other potter at the time, they were producing single coloured transfer wares in the colours Blue , Green, Red ,Black, Purple, if other colours were required they were painted on by hand.
In 1847 Pratt Registered with the Patents Office, a new process and shortly after he started producing multi coloured transfer printed wares and he lead the field amongst all the other potteries. The design on the cup and on the saucer displays some large flowers using the single colour blue.
