What information do we collect?
When registering on The Collecting Bug (TCB), you are asked to enter your name, email address and a User Name. You may also use TCB anonymously as a visitor.
Once registered, you are only identified on the website by your User Name. Your User Name is visible to other users of the site, but you may choose an anonymous User Name if you wish.
When leaving comments as a guest, you may optionally include your email address.
How do we use this information?
We use the provided email address for sending you authentication information (such as passwords), and for transmission of comments and messages related to your collection from other users.
If you have left a comment as a guest, and ticked the box requesting we send you follow- up comments by email, we will use the email address provided to send you follow-up comments relating to that collection.
Publishing Content
As a registered user, you may:
- Create and publish content (which may include data, images, documents, text and other digital files)
- Use account settings to control which fields and records are public, and which are private
Publicly published content may be read, collected and used by others. For example, search engines may index your content so that it appears in search engine results. Please note that if you add your contact details publicly (for example, on your “About Me” page, or in a comment) you may receive unsolicited messages from visitors to the site.
Log Files
Like many websites, this site makes uses of log files. This information includes IP addresses, type of browser, date/time stamp, operating system, pages viewed and any other information your browser may send to us.
We may use this information to analyse trends, administer the site and track user movements and usage patterns. Such information is of a non-personally identifiable nature.
Disclosing of information with third parties
TCB will not give, sell or lease any personally identifying information to any third party for marketing or promotional purposes without your consent.
We may disclose your information if required by law to do so, or in the event of a legitimate claim or complaint.
In the event the TCB business is transferred to another entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. In these circumstances, we will endeavour to ensure this personal information is used by its successor in a manner consistent with this privacy policy.
Security of information
TCB has physical and technical security measures in place to protect information from loss, misuse and alteration. This includes use of Transport Layer Security (TLS supersedes SSL) for data encryption, authenticated access to internal databases, and regular reviews of overall site security.
No method, however, is 100% secure, and while we strive to protect your information through commercially reasonable means, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Your account information is protected by a password for your privacy and security. We utilise a strong password policy and non-reversible hashing for password storage. It is important that you protect against unauthorised access to your password, select a secure password, and log off once you have finished using a shared computer.
