Hi Sarah, this is the only stamp I have. However, Empire Type Foundry fonts do come up on Ebay from time to time. Here's one I just noticed: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334213964756

James G commented on DeLittle No. 289 Gothic Outline
I do not have this font, just bit of a type nerd and an armchair wood type historian. BTW I love this site for reference for wood type identification.

Hi James G. Yes, I looked into it some more, and agree with you. If you happen to have a font of it yourself, I would love to see it!

My grandmother worked for W F Persons (Empire Type Foundry) in the 1920’s and carved for him as well. If possible, we would love to see any stamps you know of from that time. My grandparents also took a trip with Persons in his “Motor Home” for their honeymoon from Delevan NY to Florida.

Hi Phillip, What an extraordinary collection you have - exquisite, Thanks for sharing. I'm guessing you've been at it a while? I've learned a few new names and catalogue numbers for some of my last 10 years of collecting, much thanks and to a good 2021 Best Russell

Hi Cindy, Yes I did! But this was all he had in 4 line. Is yours this size, and is it complete? I also have it in 5 line - see the link to Font05.16 at right. I like it as it is simple, but with a touch of style. This also makes it hard to date, as the style is timeless. If you have a photo of the font, or a printed sample, I'd love to see it. Philip

Thank you Philip, we are gathering info little by little but thanks for reminding me of Briar Press, excellent place to ask a bit more

Hi Pixel Press, I have never seen a photo of one of the presses, although I have asked around. I have seen curved wood type from UK , USA and imported into Australia...so there must have been presses and knowledge around. maybe you could try asking on Briar Press? Regards, Philip

Hi Frank - I don't know the details, as it was a friend who tracked it down - I'll see what I can find out. Looking carefully at the Richard Gans specimen, it appears to be identical, not modified in any way. Regards, Philip

I'd be interested which german foundry and when did 'Vulcan'. I found a specimen from Richard Gans (1922) where there is the same font and is called Ronda Universal. https://www.flickr.com/photos/pepel/2093615518/in/photolist-4c1tsJ-5wxdv2-5wCeVE-4bVEAk-5yk4ZM-4bWoFe-5wxXyT-ixoeKx-4c1jXh-4bWd7K-5wxUDe-4c1vKs-4c1vzG-4c1v7A-4c1uDW-4c1uN7-4bWwji-4bWtWM-4bWoQD-4c14bA-5wCdUu-5wCfoN-5wCiww-5wxXYc-5wxYwk-5wCeBb-5wCjyd-5wxXcx-5wCgxf-5wxWsP-5wxW9P-5wxZrv-4bWmNk-4bWx3x-5wxe1t-5wBxLA-5wBxkb-4bZNSy-4c17M9-4bVHmK-4bVEC4-4bW5ZV-4bW3ei-4bVThH-4c125h-4bWa4t-4bZHs5-4c12VW-4bVWiB-4bW5i8

Hi Dick, Glad you like the collection. And I always approve of using wood type lettering! No I don't supply proofs or scans. You could do is a google search for "wood type fonts", and you will get a large number of sites offering downloadable fonts. Some are free and quite good, if you hunt around. The style you are looking for - Gothic Extra Condensed, is one of the more common ones. Philip

Admire your collection. I'm looking for a few letters &. Numerals to use in an invitation I've set on Windows Open Office, Do you supply proofs or scans of your wood type faces that I can incorporate into my layout? Like :Gothibc X ; No. 258 Atlantic sans serif and Modified Gothic XX Condensed.
